Karen Tan Pei Wah was born in Kuala Lumpur. Her interest in music was motivated by her cousin who plays the piano when she was in kindergarten. Since primary school she actively involved in school band and school choir. At the age of twelve, she started playing piano under guidance of Ms. Wenny Heng.
In year 2004, she passed her grade 8 and pursued her degree in Performing Arts (Music) in University of Malaya. She was majoring in piano under the tutelage of Mr. Chin Ying Soong. During this three years degree, she was the performer and student committee member of music showcase organized by the Cultural Centre of University Malaya. Besides campus activity, she was the manager and choir member of Rhodson Chorale which performed as Christmas carolers at Genting from year 2006 to 2008. She obtained the ATCL Diploma in Piano Recital from Trinity Examination Board in year 2007. After graduated, she worked under Young Choral Academy and also Choral Singing Instructor for Structure Performing Arts of Sri KDU (Primary School), Kota Damansara from the year of June 2008 to December 2009.
She completed the The Australian Kodaly Certificate in Music Education -Primary Level and Early Childhood Level in the year of 2012. She is currently learning vocal under tutelage of Ms Yeoh Ker Ker. In year 2013, she was one of the guest tutor at Cork, Ireland’s “Summer Sing” programme.
Karen is tutoring the Probational Level, Elementary Level and Concert Choir Level of Kuala Lumpur Children Choir at Young Choral Academy. Besides, she also coaches the choir of SMP Sri Aman and is also a private tutor for piano lesson and music theory.
