A: Children

G: Show Choir

Each choir must prepare a programme of TWO (2) contrasting pieces from the Pop / Musical Theatre genres, both freely chosen, which may be accompanied or unaccompanied.

If accompanied, they should only be with a Piano and/or your own portable percussion instruments. A drum kit will be provided.

Dance, costumes, solos are allowed.

A maximum set-up time of 5 minutes before the performance is allowed

H: Folklore

Ethnic costumes, dances and instruments are welcome, but no set-up time will be given.

Competition Rules and Regulations

  1. The minimum number of singers allowed (not inclusive of conductor and accompanist) in each Category is 20 singers, there is NO maximum number of singers allowed for each Category.
  2. Organizers will allow participation of up to 10% of the singers, under/above the age limit.
  3. A Piano is available for all categories (Drum kit available for Show Choir Category only). Recorded playbacks or backing tracks are NOT allowed. Choirs are welcome to perform pieces in any language and from any time period, including original compositions or commissions. Choirs are encouraged to choose works that highlight their particular talents, cultural background and demonstrate a range of musical styles.
  4. Each choir is allowed a maximum pure singing time of 8 minutes. This is NOT inclusive of walking on and off the stage. Choirs exceeding the maximum pure singing time will be penalized 2 points for every 30 seconds, from their total score.
  5. Each choir must submit FIVE (5) sets of scores for the Jury, along with their Registration form. This may be in the form of hard copies of scores or licensed electronic copies obtained from the publisher or composer. Scores must be original scores, and will be returned to the conductor/choirs at the end of the competition. Submitted scores must be in conventional stave notation.
  6. The conductor of a choir may be allowed to conduct a different choir or choirs in either categories of the Competition.
  7. The Organizers reserve the right to record performances of choirs during the Competition, as well as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for archive purposes.

 

Evaluation and Judging Criteria

  1. The Competition Jury will consist of a panel of international choral experts.
  2. The evaluation of the Competition will be based on an internationally recognized evaluation system, according to the following criteria:
    • Technical Evaluation
      1. Intonation
      2. Sound quality of the choir
    • Artistic Evaluation
      1. Fidelity to the score
      2. Overall artistic impression
  3. The final result is calculated from the total sum of all final scores of the jury. The lowest and highest scores will be disregarded.
  4. PRIZES AND AWARDS

    1. All choirs will be awarded the following Diplomas, as determined by final scores from the Jury:
      GOLD Diploma A grade   90 points and above
      B grade   85 points to 89.99 points
      C grade   80 points to 84.99 points
      SILVER Diploma A grade   75 points to 79.99 points
      B grade   70 points to 74.99 points
      C grade   65 points to 69.99 points
      BRONZE Diploma A grade   60 points to 64.99 points
      B grade   55 points to 59.99 points
      C grade   40 points to 54.99 points
    2. All choirs will receive written copies of their adjudicated scores.
    3. Choirs which do not receive a Diploma will receive a Certificate of Participation for their performances.
    4. The Jury may give out Special Awards at their discretion.
    5. All results of the Jury will be considered final and cannot be contested.
    6. The choir which is awarded a GOLD Diploma with the highest marks will be named Category Winner of the respective category.

     

    The Grand Prix Competition:

    Each Category Winner will be invited to compete in the Grand Prix Competition on Sunday, 11th November, 2018 in the morning. For the Grand Prix Competition, choirs will perform a contrasting programme of TWO (2) pieces, both freely chosen, and must not be repeated from the earlier competition rounds.  

    Registration deadline is Friday, 27th July 2018 All necessary documents including original scores and Registration Form much reach the Organizers by this date.

    For each participating choir, the Participant and Registration Fee entitles the following

    • Competition participation
    • To watch the Competition (subject to availability of seats)
    • 10 Complimentary Tickets for The Grand Prix Competition on Sunday, 11th November, 2018
    • One Choir Exchange (One-hour session with a choir from another country, arranged by Festival Organizers)
    • One Workshop at the Festival Symposium (Symposium schedule will be out in 2018)
    • Perform in the Festival Friendship Concert
    • Free admission to all Festival concerts
    • Complimentary Festival souvenirs for each participant

    Information regarding Transportation and Accommodation will be provided upon receipt of Registration documents
